3 killed in Mymensingh clash

Three persons were killed and five others injured in a clash over a trivial matter in Ishwarganj upazila of Mymensingh this morning.

The victims were identified as Hashem Uddin, 70, his son Johirul Islam, 25, and his nephew Azibul Islam, 35, son of Abdur Rashed, all of them were residents of Kathaldangi village in the upazila, reports our Mymensingh correspondent quoting police.

Quoting the victims’ family members and local people as saying, Shaker Hossain Siddiquee, additional superintendent of police (Gouripur Circle), said Hashem had a dispute over setting up a poultry farm near the house of his elder brother Abdur Rashed.

As stinking smell spread from the farm, the brothers had earlier locked in a clash two months ago and lodged cases against each other over the incident with the local police station, said the ASP.

There was a scheduled arbitration over the matter this morning, organised by local people, the official said.

During the arbitration around 8:30am, Hashem’s son Johirul locked in an altercation with Azibul. At one stage, both the groups attacked each other with sharp weapons, leaving Johirul dead on the spot and seven others injured, ASP Shaker Hossain said.

On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control, he said.

Of the injured, four were rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) where the doctors declared Hashem and Azibul dead.

Critically injured Mazharul Islam, 20, and Khairul Islam, 18, both sons of Hashem Uddin, were shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (MMCH) as their condition deteriorated this noon, said police.

Police also recovered some sharp weapons from the spot.

Deputy Inspector General of Police (Mymensingh Range) Nibash Chandra Majhi, Deputy Commissioner of Mymensingh Md Mizanur Rahman and Superintendent of Police Shah Abid Hossain visited the spot soon after the incident.

Police sent the bodies of the deceased to MMCH morgue for autopsy.

No case was lodged and none was held in connection of this incident till filing of this report this noon.
