Eid-ul-Azha holiday makers have started coming back to Dhaka after celebrating the Eid-ul-Azha with their near and dear ones in their village homes.
Bus, train, and launch terminals witnessed moderate crowds on Friday although the pressure still remains low.
The highways, however, remained almost free, while the train schedule has collapsed.
Dhaka is expected to gain its old business form by tomorrow, as the pressure of the passengers returning to Dhaka is expected to start mounting up from today.
"The Dhaka bound Banalata Express from Rajshahi is a non-stop train. But, it made stoppages at 13 points leading to the schedule collapse. The arrival time was scheduled for 12pm, but it arrived in Dhaka at 3pm," said Nazmus Sakib Chowdhury, a student who returned to Dhaka by that train on Friday.
Asif Mahmood, who returned to Dhaka from Chittagong on Friday said it took five-and-a-half-hours to reach Jatrabari.
"The highway was free from any traffic, but there were moderate traffic jams from Kanchpur Bridge to Jatrabari intersection," he added.
As Dhaka was still in a holiday mood, the city looked free from traffic jams for four days after the Eid, and those who chose not to head out of the city for the celebration had a few days of respite from the usual crowd, noise, and pollution.
Prior to the vacation this year, the journey home was not smooth, as home-goers remained stranded on roads for hours and, in some cases, it took the whole day for them to reach home due to massive tailbacks.
The dilapidated road conditions due to the recent flood in many areas also caused trouble for the home-goers.
The Bangladesh Railway had to reschedule the time of trains, while ferry services on the Shimulia-Kathalbari route was halted due to bad weather, causing immense suffering for passengers.
Just from the beginning of the Eid vacation, vehicular movement on the Dhaka-Chittagong, and Dhaka-Mymensingh highways were quite smooth, but the Dhaka-Aricha, and Dhaka-Mawa routes saw significant tailbacks.
A 100-km tailback was reported on the Dhaka-Tangail highway before the Eid day.
