Extremists may prepare for bigger attacks: Obaidul

Obaidul Quader, the road transport and bridges minister, on Sunday said that the recent bomb attacks on police ‘might be a test case and preparation for a bigger one by the extremists.’

‘By these small incidents, may be they are preparing themselves for bigger ones,’ he told journalists at a press briefing at the Secretariat in Dhaka.

Two police personnel were injured as improvised explosive devices were blasted near a police box at Science Laboratory Crossing in the capital on Saturday night.

Obaidul said that he had contacted with the inspector general of police who confirmed him that the attackers targeted the police personnel.

When asked about the Assam issue, Bangladesh Awami League general secretary Obaidul said that it was India’s internal affair.

‘But we are alert and observing the matter of the exclusion of the citizens from Assam’s National Register of Citizens,’ he said.
