'Hijacker' held over biker murder on Malibagh flyover

Law enforcers today clamied to have arrested a “hijacker”, who allegedly killed biker Milon before running away with his bike on the Malibagh flyover near the CID office in Dhaka.

A team of Detective Branch of DMP arrested Md Nuruddin Sumon from Dhaka’s Shahjahanpur around 3:00am, said Masudur Rahman, deputy commissioner (media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

Police also recovered Milon’s motorcycle and mobile phone from Sumon’s possession, the DMP official said.

On the night of the incident, Milon agreed to give Sumon a lift up to Gulistan from Malibagh’s Chowdhurypara area on his bike in exchange of Tk 50, Abdul Baten, additional commissioner of DB, told reporters at a press conference at DMP media centre this afternoon.

At one point, Sumon asked Milon to stop the bike. After it stopped, Sumon demanded that Milon lets him drive it, to which Sumon disagreed, Abdul Baten said.

The disagreement turned into a scuffle following which Sumon stabbed Milon on the throat. Then Milon ran away with the bike and victim’s phone, the DB official also said at the briefing.

Milon was then rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital from where he was shifted to the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases. After a three-hour battle, the 36-year-old died around 5:45 am.

His wife Shilpi filed a murder case with Shahjahanpur Police Station.

He was a rider of Uber and Pathao. But he had not been using either of them since August 7, police said earlier.
