Dengue outbreak: Over 800 hospitalised in 24 hrs

Over 800 people have been hospitalised with mosquito-borne virus dengue in the last 24 hours, according to the Directorate General of Health Services.

The DGHS Health Emergency Operations Centre and Control Room said that a total of 820 people were diagnosed with dengue between 8 am on Sept 3 to 8 am on Sept 4.

The number of dengue patients is fluctuating, said control room Assistant Director Dr Aysha Akhter.

“Against the 820 people diagnosed 978 have been released from hospitals,” she said.

The graph shows the DGHS data for dengue patients between Aug 29 till Sept 4. The official dengue death toll currently stands at 57 from Jan 1 till Sept 4, but the unofficial death toll is reported to be at 131, so far.

According to the DGHS data a total of 3,588 people are undergoing treatment for dengue across the country.

Amongst them 1,989 patients are currently receiving treatment in 41 government and private hospitals in Dhaka, whereas 1,599 people are undergoing treatment outside Dhaka.

Since January 1 till Sept 4, a total of 73,565 people have been affected by the mosquito-borne virus.

Among those admitted, a total of 69,785 have been released from their respective hospitals and clinics after treatment.
