Make SI Khairul prime accused in Jashore rape case: Rights body

Nari O Shishu Odhikar Forum today called upon the authorities concerned to show Sub-Inspector Khairul Alam as prime accused in a rape case filed with Jashore’s Sharsha Police Station on Wednesday.

“Ensure justice making SI Khairul Alam as prime accused,” Advocate Nipun Roy, member secretary of the Nari O Shishu Odhikar Forum (Women and Children Rights Forum), came up with the call while visiting the victim’s house in Jashore.

The Jashore woman who was allegedly raped by a police officer and his “source” in the early hours of Tuesday clearly recognised SI Khairul when senior police officers brought him before her in this connection, she said.

A 12-member teamof the rights body-led by Nipun Roy visited the victim’s Jashore house this noon and assured her to extend all out legal supports to ensure justice.

“We will seek judicial inquiry if the victim is denied justice,” Nipun Roy told reporters expressing grave concern over the growing trend of rape and repression on women and children across the country.

Police arrested three suspects -- Kamrul, 40, Omar Ali, 50, and Abdul Latif, 48, over the alleged rape. Police have petitioned to the court for placing them on remand.

Quoting the woman, a number of newspapers have already reported that the SI, Kamrul and a few others went to her house around 2:30am on Tuesday and demanded Tk 50,000 for the release of her husband, who was arrested only days earlier in a drug-related case.

But when she refused to give any money, the SI and his source raped her.

Meanwhile, doctors said they found evidence of rape.
