Nabiganj OC, SI hacked by ex-BCL leader

Officer-in-charge (investigation) and a sub-inspector of Nabiganj Police Station in Habiganj were hacked by a group of people led by a former Chhatra League leader during an anti-drug drive this evening.

OC (investigation) Uttam Kumar was taken to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital while SI Fakhruzzaman was admitted to the upazila health complex, our Moulvibazar correspondent reports quoting police.

OC Uttam along with Fakhruzzaman went to Salamatpur area in Nabiganj upazila this evening to detained Sohanur Rahman Musa, former vice-president of the upazila unit Chhatra League, for his link with drug racketing in the area, said Iqbal Hossain, officer-in-charge of the police station.

Sensing presence of the lawmen, Musa along with his associates swooped on them with sharp weapons, leaving the OC and the SI critically injured, the police official told our Moulvibazar correspondent.

Locals rescued the injured the OC and SI and sent them to the upazila health complex from where the OC was shifted to the MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital as his condition deteriorated.

OC Iqbal told our local correspondent that Musa is a listed criminal and yaba trader.

Later, police conducted a drive in the area to arrest Musa.
