JU students, teachers bring out rally demanding resignation of VC

A faction of teachers and students of Jahangirnagar University brought out a procession on the campus today demanding resignation of its Vice Chancellor Prof Farzana Islam over allegation of corruption.

At least 20 teachers and around 100 students were brought out from the Social Science faculty and ended in front of the administrative building around 1:00pm, reports our Jahangirnagar University correspondent.

‘’We have been saying that Chhatra League was given money for the project,’’ said Ashikur Rahman, one of the spokespersons of the movement.

Ashikur further said that the general students of the university will never accept the fact that taxpayers’ money was used to bribe these leaders.

“We want to tell the VC that she should resign from her position with honour or else the general students will compel her to resign,’’ he added.

The agitated students of JU have been demonstrating on the campus since August 23 demanding the relocation of three male students’ dormitories which the authorities planned to construct near Rabindranath Hall, and judicial probe into the allegations of corruption and irregularities that took place before the approval of these mega projects.

The students and teachers also protested against the corruption of the authorities and unplanned development works which would endanger the biodiversity of the campus.
