Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) wants transparency and accountability of the United Nations in management of the humanitarian crisis of Rohingyas.
According to the information provided to the TIB by some UN bodies, the highest administration cost was incurred by the UN Women, which is 32.6 percent. The lowest administration was of UNICEF’s 3 per cent.
“This cost also includes the administration cost of the NGOs that are funded by the UN bodies. Therefore, it is really difficult to say the exact administration cost of the UN bodies. We think it is much higher,” TIB Executive Director Dr Iftekharuzzaman said at a press conference at its conference hall in Dhaka today.
He said UN has vested interest in such crisis. There were evidences that UN had not played due role to prevent the Rohingya crisis.
It is important that the UN and other NGOs make their information on the spending over the Rohingya crisis, he said.
TIB also presented a report on the challenges of Rohingya management in Bangladesh.
The report was presented by TIB researchers Md Shahnur Rahman and Nazmul Huda.
They found that the government agencies were also found to have delayed the approval of the NGO projects.
