Suspected Chinese coronavirus patient in Rangpur hospital

A Chinese national, suspected to be suffering from coronavirus, has been admitted at the isolation unit of the Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH).

The Chinese person works at the Uttara Export Processing Zone (UEPZ) in Nilphamari's Saidpur, said RMCH spokesperson Narayan Chandra on Sunday (Feb 16).
"We have reported the case to Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) in Dhaka,” he said.

"They will send a medical team, who will collect samples for medical tests," he added.

Chandra declined to make any further comments before the medical reports were available.

According to sources at the hospital, the Chinese national returned to Bangladesh from home on Feb 4.

For the last two days, the person had been suffering from common cold and chest pains. As the condition deteriorated this morning, the person was hospitalised.

Over 68,000 people in mainland China have now been infected the COVID-19 and deaths due to the strain of coronavirus infection are reported from outside china.

Global concern remains high about the spread of the virus, which first emerged in China's central Hubei province in December and already claimed over 1,600 lives, although the number of new cases from China's coronavirus epidemic dropped for a third consecutive day.
