Coronavirus cases in Bangladesh now stand at 61: Minister

Bangladesh on Friday confirmed the detection of five more new coronavirus patients, raising the total number of such cases in the country to 61.

Health Minister Zahid Maleque made the disclosure at an online press briefing.

"The total number of coronavirus cases [in Bangladesh] is now 61. Five more people have been diagnosed with COVID-19. The good news is that no new patient has died while 26 people have recovered," he said.

The minister urged everyone to stay indoors and comply with the directives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Bangladesh has so far reported six deaths from coronavirus.

The global death toll from coronavirus jumped to 53,190 on Friday. It has so far infected 1,015,466 people around the world, according to Worldometer.

Of them, 750,047 are currently being treated with 37,696 being in serious or critical condition.

So far, 212,229 people have recovered across the world.

Coronavirus, first reported in China in December last year, is affecting 200 countries and territories around the world and two international cruise ships.

The World Health Organization on March 11 declared the coronavirus crisis a pandemic.
