Sixteen intern doctors of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College tested positive for Covid-19 days after another intern doctor of the same batch was reported positive.
The doctors are of batch 53 of the college and confirmed infected with Covid-19 after tests were conducted, Professor Dr Md Moynul Haque, principal of the college, said.
He said, "They all are asymptomatic and in good physical condition. It's been already 11 days since their samples were collected for cautionary test and we will retest them after 14 days."
The intern doctors returned to the college to join duty on April 18 and before joining, they were tested as security screening.
One intern doctor tested positive on April 23 and 78 intern doctors were ordered to stay in quarantine at the hostel. Their samples were collected the next day and of them, 16 tested positive, our Sylhet correspondent reports quoting the principal.
Two doctors of the batch told our correspondent that the infected are physically fine and the college authority is taking good care of them.
Principal Dr Moynul Haque said, "They are our students and we care about them. We are encouraging them and we will make sure they recover promptly."
