Police have arrested a man from Narayanganj under the Digital Security Act after he shared video footage of a Tangail Member of Parliament (MP) harvesting a farmer’s unripe paddy on Facebook.
The arrested, Momen Prodhan, 32, a resident of Narayanganj’s Rupganj was arrested from Kanchan Bazar on Tuesday.
Police sources said Momen was using his social media platforms to publicise his anti-governmental campaigns through videos and posts to induce unrest among people.
“Acting on the matter, we arrested him on Tuesday and later Sub-inspector Motaleb filed a case against him under the Digital Security Act,” said OC Mahmudul Hasan of Rupganj police station, Narayanganj.
Earlier, On April 27, a video footage of Tanvir Hasan Monir, MP of Tangail-2 constituency --who had been seen harvesting a farmer’s unripe paddy with his followers-- went viral on social media evoking mistrust and ridicule from netizens.
Afterwards, Narayanganj’s resident Momen was arrested as the video went viral from his Facebook account.
