A mother and a daughter have been killed in their sleep by a sand-laden truck that knocked down their hut after toppling over on the road in Bogra.
The incident took place at the Bogra-Natore highway at Nandigram upazila of Bogra in the early hours of Saturday.
Kundarhat highway police outpost Inspector Saiful Islam confirmed the matter and identified the deceased as Late Qurban Ali’s wife Atejan Bewa, 70, and daughter Katuli Bibi, 45, of Omarpur area under Nandigram upazila in Bogra.
Police and locals said, Katuli Bibi’s son Helal built a hut for his mother and grandmother on Roads and Highways Department’s land near the highway in Omarpur area.
The truck (Dhaka Metro-To-18-6635) going to Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in Pabna from Panchagarh lost control near Omarpur at about 2:30am on Friday.
The truck toppled over and knocked down the hut killing Katuli Bibi and Atejan Bewa in their sleep.
Highway police and fire service rushed to the spot and recovered their dead bodies.
The truck driver fled the scene but the helper Alam Sheikh, 30, has been captured.
Inspector Saiful Islam said the truck has been seized and a case will be filed against the driver and the helper.
