Garment workers demand wages, Eid bonus by Ramadan 25

‘Garment workers movement’ a platform of garment workers, demanded payment of wages and Eid bonus by 25th of Ramadan.

Muhammad Harun-or-Rashid, president of the organisation, came up with the demand at a press briefing held at the Institute of Architects Bangladesh in the city.

They also placed a nine-point demand.

Professor Ashraf Ali Akon, president of Islami Sramik Andolon’ said ‘Corona epidemic has caused huge losses in global industrial sector. Its negative impact has been felt everywhere. As a result, about 7/8 crore workers of different professions have become unemployed and living in an inhuman condition in the country.’

Mentioning that many garment workers have been diagnosed with coronavirus after the reopening of garment factories he demanded treatment of the affected workers.

Allocating 50 lakh rationing card for ensuing nutritious food for RMG workers, ensuring working environment maintaining hygiene issue, payment of 100 per cent wages to the workers of those factories which remained shut due to coronavirus, taking necessary steps to stop retrenching workers, taking steps to ensure accommodation of workers at a low price and ensuring treatment to workers after setting up special medical centre in all garments zones and EPZs are among the demands of the platform.
