Hundreds of transport workers have staged a blockade at the Panchagarh-Dhaka Highway demanding to resume the movement of vehicles which has remained stopped due to the lockdown.
The protesters took to the streets on Sunday morning till the filing of this report, stating only the passenger vehicles are prohibited to operate amid the lockdown and they are starving as they are jobless and not getting any relief whatsoever.
Either the government should permit us to work resuming the transport movement or they should provide us with relief and monetary assistance so that we do not stave with our families, said the frustrated protesters.
Transport of emergency services remained stuck on both sides of the road following the blockade.
The demonstrators also said they do not need relief or food if the government allow them to ply vehicles. They are jobless due to the lockdown.
Later, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Golam Rabbani and Panchagarh police were trying to negotiate with the protesters until the filing of this report.
