Over 340 stranded Canadians leave Bangladesh

At least 340 Canadians, stranded in Bangladesh due to the global travel restrictions amid the coronavirus pandemic, have left for home on a special chartered flight.

The third special flight arranged by the Canadian High Commission in Bangladesh departed Dhaka on Sunday, carrying the stranded Canadians citizens and permanent residents.

The Qatar Airways flight is on its way to Toronto, via Doha.

So far, the three flights have allowed over 760 Canadians to return home, with all passengers expected to pay for or reimburse their tickets.

The Canadian High Commission is currently assessing whether there is enough demand for a fourth and final assisted flight from Bangladesh to Canada.

In a press release signed by the Canadian High Commissioner in Bangladesh Benoit Préfontaine, Canada has expressed its gratitude to all government authorities involved as well as Qatar Airways for their continued support.
