1,010 die with COVID-19 symptoms in 70 days in Bangladesh

At least 1,010 people have died in Bangladesh with COVID-19 symptoms in 70 days since March 8 and the number of such death is decreasing with the gradual increase in test for coronavirus, finds a study of the Centre for Genocide Studies of the Dhaka University.

The report was published by the Bangladesh Peace Observatory, a United Nations Development Programme-funded research facility, and a team of the centre on Tuesday.

Director of the centre Imtiaz Ahmed on Tuesday said that the number of death with coronavirus symptoms was decreasing as more people were being tested now.

Imtiaz Ahmed said that the report was prepared based on reports published in 16 newspapers between March 8 and May 16.

The report said that the death with COVID-19 symptoms dropped 12 per cent from the last week as it was 929 in the last week.

Of the 1,010 deaths, highest 242 were in Dhaka, 185 in Chattogram, 122 in Khulna, 89 in Barishal, 88 in Rajshahi, 74 in Sylhet, 66 in Rangpur, and 28 in Mymensingh divisions.

The rest 116 death with COVID-like symptoms was not included in the division-wise tally because they were reported without division-wise segregation, the report said.

It said that highest 223 deaths with COVID-19 symptoms were in April 19–25 while it fall to 78 in May 10–16.
