Kushtia, Feb 1 (Just News) : Police claimed a robber was killed in a gunfight with them in Mohishdanga area under Islamic University police station in Kushtia early Thursday.
Identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.
On a tip-off that a gang of robbers was taking preparation to commit robbery in the area, a team of IU police station conducted a drive there around 3:00am, said Raton Sheikh, officer-in-charge of the police station.
Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the robbers opened fire on the police personnel prompting them to retaliate that triggered a gunfight.
One of the robbers received bullet-wounds during the gunfight while others managed to flee the scene.
He was taken to Kushtia General Hospital where on-duty physician declared him dead, the police official said.
Two police personnel — sub-inspector Rashedul Islam and constable Ahadul Islam — also got injured during the gunfight, he claimed.
Police recovered a locally made gun and sharp weapons from the spot.
