Govt directs public, private hospitals to treat Covid-19 separately

The government has directed all public and private hospitals in Bangladesh to set up separate treatment facilities for Covid-19 and non-Covid-19 patients.

These hospitals must have at least 50 beds, the directive further says.

The decision came after public health experts from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) reviewed the Covid-19 treatment system in different countries.

They advised the hospitals to provide treatment to Covid-19 and non-Covid-19 patients in different units.

On May 24, a letter signed by Additional Secretary Md Sirajul Islam of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare was sent out to all hospitals, asking them to follow the new directive.

The directive further said it is mandatory for all hospitals, clinics and diagnostic centres to have at least 50 beds.

As of Wednesday, Bangladesh has reported 38,292 confirmed cases on Covid-19, a global pandemic, since its first detection in the country on March 8. Of the patients, 544 have died.
