BNP to scrap Digital Security Act if voted to power: Mirza Alamgir

Bangladesh Nationalist Party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday said that his party would scrap all the laws used against the rights of the people, including the Digital Security Act if was voted to power through a free and fair general election.

Speaking at a virtual press conference from his Dhaka residence on the misuse of DSA by the Awami League government, Mirza Fakhrul said that the ruling party was using the act to stop voices of the opposition and the media.

According to human rights organisation Odhikar, from January to June 2020, 153 cases were filed under the Digital Security Act 2018.

A total of 12 journalists were also arrested during the same period.

‘We will scrap the act if we go to power through a free and fair election in future,’ Fakhrul said.
