Jananetri Parishad president AB Siddique filed a defamation case against Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, her son Tarique Rahman and the party’s secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir for allegedly instigating Islamist leaders through anti-sculpture speeches at different conferences.

The case was filed with the court of Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Satyabrata Shikder and he decided to pass an order in this regard after scrutinising the case documents.

Hefazat-e-Islam acting amir Junaid Ahmed Babunagari, Bangladesh Khilafah Majlis acting secretary-general Muhammad Mamunul Haque and Islami Shashantantra leader Syed Faizul Karim were also made accused in the case for their anti-sculpture statements.

Jananetri Parishad president AB Siddique said that as a freedom fighter he had the responsibilities to protest against the anti-sculpture activities.

Earlier, on December 7, two sedition cases were filed against Hefajat-e-Islam amir Junaid Babunagari, joint secretary general Mohammad Mamunul Haque and Islami Andolan Bangladesh senior naib-e-ameer Syed Faizul Karim for their provoking statement regarding the installation of sculptures.
