Hefajat has become neo-Razakar: Joy

Prime Minister's ICT Advisor Sajeeb Wazed Joy has said the anti-liberation forces' goal to "transform Bangladesh into Afghanistan" will never be allowed to turn into reality.

"We are Bangladesh Awami League. We liberated Bangladesh, we modernised Bangladesh. Facing all the challenges, we are paving the developmental path for Bangladesh. We know how to deal with Razakars," said Joy.

He was describing the achievements in the 12 years of the Awami League government's 'Digital Bangladesh' initiative at a webinar held on Saturday, marking the fourth Digital Bangladesh Day.

"We have advanced Bangladesh. We are establishing Bangladesh as a modern, developing country. But, I must utter a few words of caution that a quarter in our country has already come into play to pull the country backward," he said.

Joy said the anti-liberation elements had warned that they would turn Bangladesh into Afghanistan.

"Do we want that to happen? Should our country plunge back into the dark age? We will never let that happen," he said.

As long as Awami League government is there, Joy said, they will not let it happen. "I want to say that we have to eradicate this fundamentalist force."

In a sheer act of audacity, they vandalised the sculpture of the Father of the Nation in his birth centenary, Joy said.

"This is a blow to the spirit of our Liberation War. Those who attacked the spirit of the Liberation War of Bangladesh are against Bangladesh. How do we address them? We call them Razakars. Jamaat was [Razakar] in 1971 and Hefajat has become neo-Razakar," Joy also said.

"We know how to deal with anti-liberation elements," he added.
