178 BNP activists get bail in arson attack cases

The High Court on Wednesday granted anticipatory bails to 178 leaders and activists of Bangladesh Nationalist Party in five cases filed against them over arson attacks on 11 buses in Dhaka on November 12, 2020.

The bench of Justice Md Habibul Gani and Justice Md Riaz Uddin Khan granted the bails to the BNP men until February 12, 2021.

The court heard 36 petitions of the BNP men, accused in the five cases filed with the Shahbagh police station, Kalabagan police station, Paltan police station, Motijheel police station, and Uttara police station.

The police filed 16 cases against over 600 BNP men with nine police stations in the capital.

The police alleged that BNP and its associate bodies carried out the arson attacks on the busses as part of their subversive activities to thwart the by-election of Dhaka-18 constituency, held on November 12, 2020.
