BNP calls for unity to make EC, Govt resign

Bangladesh Nationalist Party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday urged for a mass unity of all opposition political parties to force the Election Commission and government resign.

He said this while speaking at a human chain formed by the Dhaka city north and south BNP in front of the National Press Club as part of the party’s prescheduled countrywide programme.

Fakhrul said the EC had completely failed to perform its duties and holding elections in a free and fair manner.

‘So, they should resign without delay. Otherwise, they will be forced to resign through movements. We should be united for the restoration of democracy and rights of the people,’ he said.

BNP held countrywide protests across the country in the district and metropolitan levels in demand of resignation of the EC.

Member of the advisory council of party chairperson Amanullah Aman, senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, central leaders Fazlul Haque Milon, Nazin Uddin Alam, Abdus Salam, Abul Basher and others spoke at the human chain.

The protest rallies were held in most of the districts and metropolitan areas across the country, BNP sources said.
