‘No undemocratic govt can cling to power forever’

Dhaka, Feb 25 (Just News): Gano Forum President Dr Kamal Hossain today said no undemocratic government will be able to cling to power forever in this country as people always win over injustice.

“We feel surprised when an undemocratic government tells that they are elected democratically,” Kamal said while speaking at a memorial meeting at the Jatiya Press Club.

Gano Forum organised the programme to commemorate its three leaders -- Fazlul Kabir, Abul Hasnat and Raoshan Hakim who died recently.

Dr Kamal in his speech said that all the undemocratic governments dream to prolong their power forever. “But they forget the fact that every time people’s power wins defeating the autocratic force.”

Pointing to ruling Awami League government, the noted jurist said the present government thinks everything about going on correctly because everyone who remains in power also thinks the same.

“But people will have to prove that everything is not going on rightly. It’s the duty of people to let the government inform about this,” the Gano Forum chief said.

He said people’s victory is imminent if they can play a role as owner of the country.

Pointing to the autocratic regime of Jatiya Party Chief HM Ershad, who is also a special envoy to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Dr Kamal said the autocratic ruler had also dreamt of prolonging his power more than 15 years.

“But it didn’t happen finally as fall of any undemocratic ruler is a must if people of this country become united,” he said, referring to the movement against Ershad’s rule in 1990.

Remembering the role of his party’s leaders to establish a fair political culture in the country, Dr Kamal said their sacrifice will not go in vain.

"The present politics has no principle. There's only policy to loot the state coffer in the name of politics," he said.

The noted jurist said whereas expatriate workers send their hard-earned money to Bangladesh, politicians and businessmen siphon those out of the country.

He, however, said the country's people will not accept it as they never tolerated injustice in the past. "No undemocratic government had sustained in the past and can never," he said.
