Injured in BNP-police clash, Bhola JCD president dies in Dhaka

Bhola district unit of Jatiyatabadi president Md Nure Alam who was critically injured during a clash between the police and the activists of Bangladesh Nationalist Party on July 31 died at a hospital in Dhaka on Wednesday afternoon.

‘Nure Alam died in a hospital in Dhaka at about 3:00pm,’ said Bhola Sadar upazila BNP general secretary Md Helal Uddin.

He said that Nure Alam was taken to a Bhola hospital immediately after the 'police attack' and then was shifted to a Barishal hospital from where he was shifted to a Dhaka Hospital where he had been on life support.

With Nure Alam, a total of two people were killed in the clash.

On July 31, an activist of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party-affiliated Swechasebak Dal, Abdur Rahim, 28, was shot dead and scores injured as police and opposition activists clashed in Bhola Sadar.

The incident happened when police barred the BNP activists from holding a procession protesting the corruption and mismanagement in the energy sector and ongoing power cuts.

BNP Bhola district unit organised the procession as part of a three-day programme announced by the party’s central body.
