Many injured after BNP-police clash in Munshiganj

A clash broke out between BNP activists and police in Munshiganj Sadar upazila this afternoon (September 21, 2022).

A correspondent who is at the Munshiganj General Hospital told that he saw at least 20 people being treated for their injuries following the clash.

Earlier, BNP leaders and activists brought out a procession protesting price hike of essentials in the country.

Around 3:30pm, police allegedly barred the BNP programme at Muktarpur Puraton ferry ghat in the upazila resulting in a clash between BNP men and police, reports a correspondent from Munshiganj.

According to sources, the BNP men hurled brick bats at police allegedly forcing police to fire rubber bullets and teargas shells in return.

Masud Rana, member secretary of Jubo Dal's Munshiganj district unit, claimed two BNP men suffered bullet injuries during the clash.

The district's Additional Superintendent of Police Minhajul Islam and Sadar Police Station Officer-in-charge Md Tariquzzaman are also among the injured, reports the correspondent quoting sources at the hospital where they were treated.

They took primary treatment at Munshiganj General Hospital, the correspondent said quoting Shakhawat Hossain, Resident Medical Officer.

The RMO could not confirm the number of policemen who are among the injured.

Another injured, Zahangir Hossain, who sustained injuries in the clash, was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), hospital sources said.
