There is no debate, discussion in parliament: Mirza Fakhrul

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today alleged that there is no accountability in the parliament.

"No debate or discussion about the country takes place there (parliament). There are only two things they (AL) have been able to do successfully—one is theft: they are looting all resources of the state and smuggling it out of the country. And the other is, creating terror: people do not have the courage to protest," he said.

Fakhrul also said Awami League has done away with the fair election system but want to show that they held elections.

The BNP secretary general made the comments while speaking at the opening ceremony of Nilphamari district BNP conference organised at Syedpur this afternoon.

BNP will not go for polls in the 12th National Assembly elections without a non-partisan caretaker government system, Fakhrul added.

The BNP leader also alleged that Awami League is completely controlling the judiciary.

To BNP activists present at the conference Mirza Fakhrul said "Awami League has once again started campaigning for a new election. We must resist this election, for the sake of this country. We will not allow any elections to be held in this country under the Awami League government. People do not respect an election where there is no right to vote. Our words are very clear, the people of this country will not go to any election under Awami League."

"It has been 50 years since independence and we are still unable to arrange a peaceful transfer of power," he added.
