AL-BNP clash leaves dozens injured in Keraniganj

Dozens of people were injured as activists of the ruling Awami League and the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Friday locked in a clash on Zinzira Bus Road under South Keraniganj in Dhaka when the opposition political party had been holding a programme there.

Police said that BNP Dhaka district unit general secretary Nipun Roy who was among the injured ones was rushed to Dhaka for treatment.

BNP Dhaka district unit president Khandaker Abu Ashfaq said that the ruling Awami League activists attacked on their peaceful demonstration in front of their party office at Zinzira.

He claimed that the AL activists began to throw brick bats on them at about 11:30am without any provocation.

He said that over 30 of their leaders and activists, including Nipun Roy, were injured in the attack.

Dhaka district additional police superintendent Aminul Islam said that scores of Awami League and BNP activists were injured in the clash.

He said that police, on hearing the news, rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

The police officer blamed BNP activists for the clash.
