Dhaka, May 3 (Just news): Gazipur and Khulna city corporations’ elections will prove the ability and strength of the Election Commission (EC) in conducting polls in a free and fair manner, Shushashoner Jonno Nagorik (Shujan) said today.
Shujan, a civil society platform, came up with the remark during a press briefing at Dhaka Reporters Unity this morning.
“It’s a big test for the EC ahead of the national elections,” Abul Maksud, a member of the Shujan’s central committee, said adding that people would judge if the EC fails to perform its duty in this regard properly.
Dilip Kumar Sarker, central coordinator of the civil society, read out a written statement at the programme.
The polls of the two cities will be held on May 15.
