Govt playing ‘foul game’ over Khaleda Zia’s bail: BNP

Dhaka, May 31 (Just News): Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Thursday alleged that the government is playing a 'foul game' to prevent Khaleda Zia’s release from jail only to allow the prime minister to settle her scores.

Speaking at a press conference at BNP's Naya Paltan central office, party senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi also expressed wonder as top terror, Tofael Ahmed Joseph, has been freed on a presidential clemency cutting short his life sentence in a murder case.

He said Khaleda Zia cannot be kept in jail in 'false and fabricate cases like Cumilla ones'. "But the government is trying to make her suffer to satisfy Sheikh Hasina's vengeance."

"We think the government is playing a foul game over her (Khaleda Zia's) bail at the behest of the head of the government," Rizvi added.

Earlier in the day, the Appellate Division extended till 24 June its previous order that stayed the High Court order granting bail to BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia in two cases filed in Cumilla.

Khaleda Zia's lawyers said the Appellate Division's order has left little chance for Khaleda's release from jail before the Eid-ul-Fitr.

About Joseph's release from jail, Rizvi said the government has secretly sent a top terror abroad after releasing him from jail. "What a strange matter it is indeed!"

He said the government has released many other criminals like Joseph but it is keeping a 'three-time prime minister and democratic leader like Khaleda Zia in an abandoned jail.

"It's a government of terrorists, godfathers and those indulge in illegal activities. The government is also the enemy of the rule of law and justice."

He also warned that the consequences of the government's repressive acts will not be good.
