BNP observes hunger strike for Khaleda Zia’s release

Dhaka, July 9 (Just News): Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Monday as part of its countrywide programme is observing token hunger strike in Dhaka city to protest at 'staying' the party's imprisoned chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia's bail and demanding 'unconditional' release of her.

Leaders and activists of BNP and its front and associate organisations started to observe the token hunger strike on the premises of Dhaka Mohanagar Natyamancha in the city at 9:00am.

The seven-hour hunger strike is scheduled to conclude at 4:00pm.

The party's leaders and activists from different parts of the capital city are coming to assemble in the venue chanting slogans for Khaleda's release and joined the hunger strike.

BNP announced the programme for metropolitan cities including Dhaka and district headquarters across the country.

The party and its front and associate organisations carried out series of different programmes to protest at imprisoning Khaleda Zia, her release and proper treatment after her conviction in February.

Countrywide demonstration, human chain, hunger strike, leaflet distribution, collection of mass signature, protest rally, submission of memo to deputy commissioners and public meeting among others the programmes.,

BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia was sentenced to five years in jail in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case by a special Dhaka judge's court on February 8 and was sent to old Dhaka Central Jail on Nazimuddin Road in the capital.
