SC upholds Khaleda Zia’s bail in Comilla case

Dhaka, Aug 12 (Just News): The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Sunday upheld a High Court order that had granted a six months ad-interim bail to Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia in the second case of burnings bus at Chauddagram in Comilla during the nationwide roads and highways blockade in 2015.

A four judges bench chaired by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain gave the order dismissing a government petition seeking stay on her bail order granted by the High Court on August 6.

Khaleda Zia’ lawyer submitted that she had no role in the burning the bus on the night of February 2, 2015 as she was confined at her party office at Gulshan which was blockaded by heavy police presence and their vehicles.

They submitted in the hearing it was the 2nd case in which she was implicated for burning the same bus for which she was earlier implicated in another case.

On August 6 Khaleda Zia’s lawyers did not press her bail petition she had filed in the High Court in connection with first case relating to burning the same bus at Chauddagram.

They said that Khaleda Zia would file fresh bail application in the case in this week.
