Any sacrifice for the sake of nat’l unity: BNP

Dhaka, Sep 8 (Just News): BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said that his party is ready to make any sacrifice for the sake of forging a greater national unity against the ruling Awami League-led 14-party alliance ahead of the upcoming general election.

“We can’t form a greater unity unless we sacrifice something. We must reach a united position and we are doing everything for this purpose,” Fakhrul said this while addressing a programme at the party’s central office in Dhaka’s Naya Paltan.

Claiming that there is no alternative to forging a greater unity, Fakhrul said, “We all opposition parties will have to understand the necessity of the unity to get rid of the prevailing situation.”

Fakhrul also blamed the Awami League-led 14-party alliance for creating a democratic vacuum in the country and said movement is a must to oust the autocratic ruling quarter from the state power.

“Before going to jail, Khaleda Zia called for the greater national unity and we are heading to reach the goal. We believe that we would be successful,” Fakhrul said.

The government has become politically bankrupt and it is now looking for an exit route as it has no position in the people’s minds, Fakhrul said.

The BNP leader said they will defeat the current “monstrous” government through forging the unity with other political parties.

Fakhrul also blamed the government for shifting of the makeshift court to old Dhaka central jail from Bakshi Bazar Alia Madrasa ground for holding the trial of Zia Charitable Trust corruption case against Khaleda Zia, saying it is an unconstitutional and inhuman move of the government.

“The trial can’t be held in such a small room in the jail. It’s nothing but a camera trial indeed,” he said.

He urged the government to free BNP’s imprisoned chairperson and allow her to receive treatment at any specialised hospital as she is very ill.
