Khaleda Zia’s checkup completed

Dhaka, Sep 15 (Just News): The government-formed five-member medical board visited BNP’s imprisoned Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia at Dhaka old central jail this afternoon and said they would give prescription tomorrow recommending necessary treatment for her.

“The medical team visited Khaleda Zia and performed primary examinations on her after listening to her ailments. They would prescribe her through inspector general of prison recommending necessary medication tomorrow,” said Jailer of the Dhaka central jail Mahbubul Islam.

The medical team entered the jailhouse around 3:45pm and examined the overall health condition of the BNP chief for around 20 munities, the jailer said.

The medical team will also place a report to Brig Gen Abdullah Al Harun, director of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) in this regard tomorrow.

“We will come to know the actual condition of Khaleda Zia’s health after getting the report,” the BSMMU director told the media.

The government has formed a fresh medical board with five experienced doctors from the BSMMU to examine health condition of Khaleda Zia who has been staying in the jailhouse after a Dhaka court sentenced her five years rigorous imprisonment in Zia Orphanage Trust case on February 8.

Meanwhile, BNP has expressed grave concern over the exclusion of Khaleda Zia’s personal physicians in the medical board formed by the government for her health check-up at the jail.

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Rizvi Ahmed, addressing a press briefing yesterday alleged that BNP gave names of five specialised doctors to include in the medical board but the names were not included deliberately.

He said all the doctors of the medical board are “politically biased and some of them are going to the contest the next general election with Awami League tickets”.

The medical board will work in line with the directives of the government and Khaleda Zia will be denied of proper treatment, he alleged.
