Will not bow down to govt: BNP

Dhaka, Nov 1 (Just News): The BNP has warned the government of an uprising as it prepares to take part in talks at the Ganabhaban as a stakeholder in the Jatiya Oikya Front.

“Let us get united to raise a movement to topple this government. We will not bow down,” Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said on Thursday.

His remarks came while addressing a token hunger strike in front of Mahanagar Natya Mancha in Dhaka's Gulistan protesting the verdict against BNP chief Begum Khaleda Zia in graft charges.

The demonstration began at 10:30am and ended on 3:00pm. Over 200 party leaders and activists took part in protest along with senior leaders.

The hunger strike was a part of the freshly-announced three-day programmes that started on Tuesday to protest the High Court verdict doubling the BNP chief’s jail term in Zia Orphanage Trust case.

The motive behind jailing Khaleda Zia is solely political, said Mirza Fakhrul.
“The judiciary is totally controlled by the government, which is clear from the verdicts in Khaleda Zia’s cases. The government has destroyed all institutions as well as the judiciary and executive branch. Bangladesh is not anymore a democratic state but an autocratic one.”
