Dr Kamal Hossain doubtful over fair polls

Dhaka, Dec 16 (Just News) : With only weeks left for the 11th Parliamentary Election, Jatiya Oikya Front leader and Gano Forum President Dr Kamal Hossain is skeptical whether the government will allow a free, fair, and credible election.

“The election won’t be conducted in a fair manner, because they (government) have understood the popular support,” Dr Kamal told a media briefing in Dhaka on Sunday (Dec 14).

Dr Kamal Hossain said, “If you (journalists) least try, you will know that whether the popular support is in the government’s favour or against them.

“I don’t want to make any comment. I will just present you the data, you will determine in which way the election is being led to,” he said.

I reply to a query, Dr Kamal Hossain said, “There is no question on whether we would stay in the race or not. We didn’t come to leave.”

Dr Kamal Hossain claimed Oikya Front activists were attacked and shots were fired towards them with candidates being arrested.

“In the circumstance, we fear whether the polls would be held or not, let alone to a free, fair, and credible election,” said Dr Kamal Hossain.

Asked if they heard back from the president’s office, Dr Kamal said, “We are yet to get an appointment. Hopefully, we will get it.”

Dr informed that the Oikya Front’s polls manifesto will be unveiled at the city’s Purbani Hotel at 11am on Monday (Dec 17).

Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal President ASM Abdur Rab urged the government to stop arresting the alliance leaders and activists.

Gano Forum Executive President Subrata Roy alleged that police play an inactive role when the alliance supporters came under attack.
