Govt using court to invalidate BNP candidates’ nominations

Dhaka, Dec 21 (Just News): BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has accused the government of using the court to invalidate the nominations of BNP candidates.

He said this during a press briefing at the BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office Friday morning.

Fakhrul also claimed: “Law enforcement agencies, especially the police, are our main opposition. They have made mass arrests of our party leaders and men, nationwide, ahead of the election.

“Government officials should maintain their neutrality in their work. They have to work for the public, not for a particular political party. We want to establish democracy and hope they [the police] also want the same,” he added.

“Our people have faith in the army. So they should not break this faith,” said the BNP senior leader.

Fakhrul furthered: “The prime minister, on Thursday, said BNP has worked out two plans ahead of the election; killing police officers, and wooing them with bribes. This is a false allegation against our party.”

The senior BNP leader also demanded the immediate release of all arrested BNP leaders and activists.

The 11th general election will take place on December 30.
