Unprecedented cop harassment on opposition activists

Dhaka, Dec 21 (Just News): Jatiya Oikyafront’s leader Dr Kamal Hossain today alleged of unprecedented police harassment on opposition activists ahead of the election.

“The level of harassment is unprecedented and contrary to constitution,” the key leader of the opposition alliance, said at a press conference in Dhaka.

“The police force is being used centrally to nab opposition leaders and activists,” he alleged. “This hampers the congenial atmosphere of election.”

Kamal said if people cannot cast their vote, it will be a big blow on the country’s independency.

The Gonoforum president urged the law enforcers not to turn the election into a farce. “You should show minimum respect to the constitution and democracy”.

Responding to a query on whether Oikyafront would boycott the election, he said they do not want to abandon the election however worse the situation is.

On the note of silence of the neighboring country about the recent attacks on opposition men, Kamal said they are not disappointed with it, but expects their role in maintaining democracy in the region.
