Jatiya Oikya Front asks president to replace CEC

Dhaka, Dec 25 (Just News) : Opposition alliance Jatiya Oikya Front on Tuesday urged president Abdul Hamid for replacing Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda with a non-partisan and neutral person for his partisan and biased role over the December 30 general election.

The Front’s call came hours after its top leaders’ meeting with the Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners earlier on the day.

On behalf of the Front, its spokesperson Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, also Bangladesh Nationalist Party secretary general issued a statement and the party standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan read out it at a news conference at the party chairperson’s office at 8:30pm.

‘We are demanding immediate resignation of the CEC and asking the president to appoint a truly neutral and non-partisan person as Chief Election Commissioner,’ Nazrul said reading out the statement of Jatiya Oikya Front.

Describing the Chief Election Commissioner’s biased and discourteous statements during the day’s meeting, Nazrul said under this situation, ‘We think that it is inevitable necessary to free the Election Commission immediately from such leadership of a spineless and biased person for the interest of free, fair and neutral election.’
