BNP urges people to turn their grief into strength to beat AL

Stating that the government now stands quicksand, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Saturday urged the people of all walks of life to turn their grief into strength to ‘defeat’ Awami League.

“The grief and enthusiasm I’ve witnessed here among the youth, it must be translated into strength. They (govt) are standing on quicksand and they’ve already turned into the enemies of people,” he said.

Speaking at a views-exchange meeting, Fakhrul further said, “So, we need only unity to defeat them (Awami League). We must beat them through people’s unity.”

Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikyafront arranged the programme at Noakhali Bar Association auditorium in the afternoon.

The BNP secretary general alleged that the government together with all the state machinery swopped on the people of Bangladesh on December 30, 2018 and stanched their rights, the same way Pakistani occupation forces did it on March 25, 1971.

Fakhrul said people could not put up any resistance and protect their rights on December 30 as they were not organised and disciplined. “We must come up with a resistance. We tried to beat them through the election, but we couldn’t do that. It doesn’t mean we’ve lost everything. We’ll stand up again and get reorganised and disciplined to take revenge on those raped my sister and set fire to the houses of my brothers. We’ll surely be successful.”

Expressing deep sympathy for those subjected to election violence in Noakhali and at different parts of the country, he urged BNP leaders and activists to work for strengthening their organisational strength to face political issues politically.

The BNP leader also urged the lawyers to provide all-out legal support to those who fell victims to election violence.

Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD-Rob) president ASM Abdur Rob, Krishak Sramik Janata League president Kader Siddiqui, BNP vice chairmen Mohammad Shahjahan, Supreme Court Bar Association secretary Mahbubuddin Khokon and Noakhali Bar Association president ABM Jakaria, among others, spoke at the programme.

Earlier, Fakhrul together with Oikyafront leaders visited Subarnachar gang-rape victim at Noakhali General Hospital.

They started their journey for Noakhali from BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office around 7am and reached Noakhali General Hospital around 12:30 pm.
