The first namaz-e-janaza of the veteran Awami League leader Syed Ashraful Islam was held at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban this morning.
Syed Ashraful was given the “Guard of Honor” on the Jatiya Sangsad premises after the janaza was held around 10:30am.
Later, President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid their tributes to him.
Hundreds of thousands of his colleagues, supporters and well-wishers converged on the national parliament building to pray for his departed soul.
Following this janaza, his body will be taken to Kishoreganj by helicopter where his second namaz-e-janaza will be held.
A Biman Bangladesh flight carrying the body of Syed Ashraf, public administration minister and also an AL Presidium member, reached Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 6:00pm yesterday.
