RU BCL leader stabbed, 1 held

A top-level leader of Rajshahi University’s Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) unit was stabbed at campus premises last night.

Imtiaj Ahmed, campus unit’s organising secretary, was whisked off to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, our campus correspondent reports.

One attacker was held and handed to police, campus’ BCL President Golam Kibria told The Daily Star. “Imtiaz was attacked by local youths.”

The detainee was identified as Arif Ishtiaque Romen from Kazla, an evening student of master's programme at Management Studies department.

Mahbub Alam, officer-in-charge (Investigation) of Motihar Police Station, said Imtiaj has a cut on his neck and is undergoing treatment.

Witnesses said, some 8-12 unknown youths swooped on Imtiaj near Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall around 8:00pm and stabbed him.

Later around 10:20pm, in presence of Vice Chancellor Prof Abdus Sobhan and Proctor Lutfor Rahman, the nabbed attacker was handed over to Police.

Earlier in the evening, Imtiaj said to have engaged in altercation with some local youths at Kazla gate area, which led to a fight.
