BNP demands fresh polls

Bangladesh Nationalist Party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday said that people’s rights would have to be established through holding another general election forcing the government to step down.

Fakhrul made the remarks while addressing a human chain in front of National Press Club at about 10:00am organised by Jatiyatabadi Mahila Dal marking the International Women’s Day.

Fakhrul alleged that the incumbent government stood against people saying, ‘It is not an elected government.’

He said that the opposition leaders and activists would have to take vow on the International Women’s Day to free BNP’s imprisoned chairperson Khaleda Zia to accelerate the movement of women community.

He said, ‘Women are now being repressed most in Bangladesh as women are not being spared from the hands of the government that forcibly occupied the power.’

Presided over by Mahila Dal president Afroza Abbas, the human chain was also addressed, among others, by Helen Zerin Khan and Noorjahan Yasmin.
