Khaleda Zia’s release on bail is a must, says Moudud

Stating that their chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia has been in jail only for political reason, BNP senior leader Moudud Ahmed on Thursday said she will surely be freed on bail ‘today or tomorrow’.

“We’ve failed to free Begum Khaleda Zia through a legal process over the last 16 months. The main reason behind it is politics. She’s been in jail only for political reason, and not getting bail also for the same reason,” he said.

Speaking at a discussion-cum-doa mahfil, the BNP leader further said, “We’ll neither stop the legal fight nor get disappointed. She’ll surely get bail today or tomorrow and return among us.”

Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum arranged the programme at the Supreme Court Bar Association auditorium in memory of late barrister Aminul Haque and advocate Fazlur Rahman Khan. The programme was also meant for seeking divine blessings for the early recovery of ailing Khaleda Zia and advocate Sanaullah Miah.

Moudud, a BNP standing committee member, urged his party colleagues to get ready for waging a movement if they finally fail to free Khaleda from jail through a legal process.

“We won’t have any other alternative to launching a movement to have her (Khaleda) released from jail if we fail to ensure it through a legal process. So, prepare for a movement. We also must get united and remain aware so that BNP doesn’t become weaker,” he added.

The BNP leader said though Khaleda is a physically ill, she is still very strong mentally. As per as I know Khaleda Zia, I think she doesn’t believe in the politics of compromise.”

He also bemoaned that law has been applied unequally for opposition and the ruling party leaders and activists over the last 10 years in the country. “It’s a very regrettable matter. That’s way we feel the country lacks the rule of law.”
