Nothing to do with 100% vote casting: CEC

Even though casting of 100% of votes in some centres in the 11th general election is not considered as normal, the Election Commission had nothing to do with it, Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda has said.

Responding to journalists’ queries at an event on Sunday regarding the casting of 100% votes in about 200 polling centres, Nurul Huda said the result of the general election gets published via a gazette after the voting.

“The Election Commission has nothing to do after the publication of the gazette. So, there is no chance to scrutinise it. Presiding officers and returning officials did not inform anything (to us) prior to that. Hence, the commission has nothing to do with it now,” he said.

Nurul Huda further said that if a case is filed in court, and if the court cancels the election and orders a new one, then that is under their jurisdiction.

The Election Commission recently published a centre-wise result of the 11th general election that took place on December 30, 2018, on its website. The result shows that 100% votes were cast in 213 centres, out of 41,155, 99% votes were cast in 127 centres, while 11 centres received less than 10% votes.
