LDA calls hartal on July 7 protesting at gas price hike

The Left Democratic Alliance on Monday called half day countrywide hartal on July 7 protesting against government’s decision of gas price hike.

The LDA will enforce the hartal between 6:00am and 2:00pm on the day.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the central steering committee of LDA, held at Socialist Party of Bangladesh central office in Dhaka on Monday, where coordinator of the alliance, Bazlur Rashid Firoj chaired.

The LDA leaders said they called the strike protesting at gas price hike ignoring people’s interests, the 2019-20 budget which would increase sufferings of the people and demanding reduction of cylinder gas price.

Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission on Sunday increased gas price by 32.8 per cent on an average, effective from July 1, for all consumers ignoring opposition from all sections of people.

Leaders of the LDA, a combine of seven left leaning political parties, attended the meeting.

The LDP will hold a press conference on Tuesday at Communist Party of Bangladesh central office.
