BNP blames govt for failed Rohingya repatriation bid

Claiming China and India differ with Bangladesh over Rohingya issues, BNP has said the government failed to repatriate the refugees to Myanmar due to lack of efforts.

"Western countries, as well as Japan, have sided with Myanmar. What have the government done in the past two years? Had they gone to India or China with a view to solving the Rohingya crisis? Or have they tried at the United Nations? We never saw them do it," Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said on Wednesday (Sept 4).

The senior BNP leader was speaking at a programme in Dhaka.

Mirza Fakhrul also demanded to withdraw the lawsuits filed against the BNP activists and it jailed Chairperson Khaleda Zia.

He also urged the government to call an election under a newly formed fair election commission.
