BNP to intensify movement for Khaleda Zia’s release

BNP senior leader Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has said their party is going to intensify the movement for having its Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia freed from jail.

“Khaleda Zia’s release, restoration of people’s voting rights, and freedom of speech are now interlinked. People will get back their rights if she is freed,” he said on Tuesday.

Speaking at a human-chain program, the BNP leader further said: “We’ve been on a movement and it will continue until our leader Khaleda Zia is freed. We’ll intensify the movement to bring her back to the democracy-loving people.”

Jatiyatabadi Tanti Dal arranged the program in front of the National Press Club, demanding Khaleda’s release from jail.

Khasru, a BNP standing committee member, said the current government is only indulging in plundering, while different state agencies are now running the country.

“The country is not being run by politicians, and this practice must be stopped. People won’t accept it,” he added.

The BNP leader said the government has now become dependent on the state agencies, as it has got isolated from the people.

He said their party will surely rebound as it has been doing politics in favour of democracy, people and their rights. “But it’ll be difficult for Awami League to get public support as it rigged votes and snatched people’s rights.”

Khosru also said BNP has become a much stronger party now, as its leaders and activists did not leave the party in spite of being subjected to serious repressive acts over the last one decade. “They (BNP leaders and activists) have now become like solid gold after enduring repression, harassment and facing false cases.”

He warned that Awami League will have to be accountable to people someday for its “misdeeds” and “misrule”.
